about

This album was inspired by the poem "Meditation on Yellow" written by Jamaican poet laureate Ms. Olive Senior as part of a collection of poetry called Gardening in the Tropics. It deals with the history of the Caribbean seen through the eyes of two marginalized groups: first its indigenous inhabitants, secondly descendants of abducted and enslaved Africans. The titles of the tracks are derived from Ms. Senior's poetry, and the music is an attempt to capture the 'petit marronnage,' or everyday rebellion performed by those who are excluded from power.
